Endpoint agent rollout checklist

A staged approach to deploying a new endpoint agent without disrupting users or servers.

Before the pilot

Settle the basics so that the pilot teaches you about the product, not the plan.

  • Inventory device and operating system types, including servers and virtual desktops.
  • Remove or coordinate overlapping security agents to avoid conflicts.
  • Define who owns alert triage during the pilot.

Pilot in detect-only mode

Deploy to a mixed group that includes IT, a business team and at least one server. Run in detect-only mode, review alerts with the team that will own them and capture exclusions for legitimate tools.

Roll out in rings

Expand in rings, with servers and critical systems last and with agreed change windows. Move each ring from detect-only to enforcement once alert quality is acceptable, and keep a rollback path for every ring.

After deployment

Report coverage by device group and investigate devices that have stopped reporting. An agent that is installed but silent is a gap, not a control.
